Bell Plaines is the musical works of filmmaker / director Spencer Gentz. By day Spencer directs music videos and commercials, working with bands such as The Shins, Nada Surf, Portugal. The Man, Chris Staples, Telekinesis, The Mimicking Birds, Pure Bathing Culture, and others. After hours and between film projects Spencer writes and records music under the name Bell Plaines.

Originally starting out scoring projects at film school in Portland in the mid 00’s, Bell Plaines began to take shape. Soon thereafter garnering the attention of legendary producer Chris Walla, of Death Cab for Cutie. Walla began spinning Bell Plaines songs while hosting guest spots on radio stations and featuring Bell Plaines in several large online magazines write ups.

Bell Plaines soon found its way to receiving award winning placements in TV, film and advertising worldwide. Spencer’s music has been used by clients such as, Patagonia, Hurley, Nike, Google, Adobe, REI, YETI, Infiniti Motor Company, Lincoln, Marmot and many others. In the spring of 2020 Spencer released his 4th full length album under Bell Plaines titled Through Fog which has gone on to receive critical acclaim.

Most recently Spencer collaborated with Yuuki Matthews of the Shins, who produced remixes for "When the Rain Comes Back" and "Summer Night" from Through Fog.
